Gymnastic Equipment is Necessary
Whenever we watch gymnasts on TV ,
we see the body and the muscles
resulting from months or even years of
hard practice and training. But do people ever dwell on the equipment that these
athletes use for practice, and even during competition? Nine times out of ten, we don’t. That’s because we don’t consider the equipment as necessary
and significant as the aspects of
training that any athlete undergoes.
Consider this
for a moment: Any athlete
must possess the utmost confidence in
whatever equipment he uses, whether it’s a treadmill or ballet bars. If an athlete cannot rely on the equipment, he
cannot develop the skills he needs. I believe that a dedicated sportsman, whether amateur or professional, cannot improve his abilities to the maximum point of perfection if he has even the
slightest uncertainty in his coach, in his abilities, and in his equipment.
An athlete must be able to
completely trust his skills and believe that he can perform his moves impeccably and smoothly. You don’t have to be an
athlete to know that faulty equipment can actually mean life and
death, or if the brakes on your car are defective. Not only gymnastic equipment, but ballet
bars as well.
We need to be sure that the
equipment we use is reliable and safe, so we need to make
sure that the equipment and tools we use will work
correctly and not disintegrate when we need it the
most. Airline pilots are famous for their obsession
about their plane’s equipment. They make it a habit to examine
their gear and the plane’s equipment before each and every trip. They check
and double-check each piece of equipment before flight.
They do it habitually and regularly, because they know
that people’s lives are at stake and they have to depend not only on their skills as pilots, but on the dependability
of the plane and the flight equipment itself.
